Dele Momodu Reaffirms Support for Atiku as ADC Presidential Candidate

Veteran journalist and publisher of Ovation magazine, Chief Dele Momodu, has reaffirmed his support for former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to emerge as the presidential candidate of the opposition coalition under the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Speaking on Politics Tonight, a Channels Television programme aired on Monday, Momodu described Atiku as his preferred choice among the ADC’s presidential aspirants, citing the former VP’s experience, consistency, and leadership qualities.
“My best choice is Atiku,” Momodu declared. “That’s what I expect Obidients to say about Obi, and what Amaechi’s supporters should say about him. There’s nothing wrong with that. Politics is a game of numbers, and right now, the most aggrieved people in Nigeria are in the North.”
Momodu alleged that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is pushing for a southern candidate to emerge from the ADC because they feel threatened by Atiku’s candidacy.
“If you listen to Wike, they’ve all been campaigning for a southern president. But they know there’s no viable southern candidate left. Wike, who could have tried, is now supporting Asiwaju. The moment they began a campaign of calumny against Atiku, it became clear they are afraid of him,” he said
.
The ADC chieftain emphasized the importance of internal democracy within the coalition, urging all aspirants to test their popularity through a transparent primary process.
“I’ve never asked anyone not to support Obi—he’s a very good friend. If you ask me who should lead the coalition, I’d say Obi. But as a democrat, I believe the process must be democratic. Let Obidients campaign for Obi, Atikulates for Atiku, and Amaechi’s supporters for Amaechi. Let the people decide,” he added
Momodu also praised Atiku’s political journey, describing him as a principled leader who has consistently pursued his ambitions without relying on state machinery or political thuggery.
“Since 1993, when he stepped down for my adopted father, Atiku has pursued his ambition without any state governor funding him. He’s invested in education and agriculture. You’ll never find thugs at his gate or hear of him trying to rig elections. That’s the kind of leader I admire,” he said
