Atiku–Obi Alliance Could Be Tinubu’s Biggest Challenge in 2027 – Olarewaju

In what could reshape Nigeria’s 2027 political landscape, Demola Olarewaju, Special Assistant on Digital Media Strategy to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, has hinted that a powerful opposition ticket could emerge if Atiku and Peter Obi join forces.
Speaking on the Mic On Podcast, Olarewaju described an Atiku–Obi partnership as the “strongest possible ticket” to challenge President Bola Tinubu, proposing a unique “co-presidency” arrangement where Nigerians could benefit from the ideas and experience of both leaders.
“I think the best bet would be to have the two of them on that ticket and give Nigerians this sort of sense of co-presidency,” he said.
Olarewaju praised Atiku’s political resilience, recalling how he supported Goodluck Jonathan after losing the 2011 primaries and helped deliver Adamawa State for the PDP.
Beyond the high-stakes political matchup, Olarewaju emphasized the need for youth inclusion in governance, revealing that the African Democratic Congress (ADC) plans to allocate 35–50% of its positions to young people and women.
“That’s who Atiku Abubakar is — a team player and a true democrat,” he noted.
“Nigeria deserves a party that understands the power of Gen Z and Gen Alpha — one that can harness their energy and innovation,” he added.
On whether a younger candidate could take the lead in 2027, Olarewaju said Atiku has repeatedly shown willingness to step aside if defeated in primaries, but remains, in his view, “the most formidable opposition figure in Nigeria today.”
